(CUH)   HELICOPTER EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES ON CAMPUS

“Both Air Ambulance services have been working with Sean and Richard at No. 6 Developments to maintain Helicopter Emergency Medical Services at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.  They have helped to coordinate planning permission for the existing helipad, whilst continuing to monitor any nearby construction activities before they come forward, to test for flight path obstructions. They have progressed ground based and rooftop feasibility studies for medium to long term helipad solutions both on and off campus.  We have found Sean and Richard to be responsive, approachable and helpful and they have been instrumental in bringing the right parties together to resolve complex challenges."

No. 6 Developments have been working with CUH for a number of years helping to manage and maintain the helipad provision on campus. Being the only Major Trauma Centre in the East of England it is imperative that this service is not disrupted. Planning Permission for the onsite facility was secured in 2022 with No.6 successfully managing the application.

Since this time No.6 have been chairing the Campus Stakeholder Group with representatives of the Hospital and the Helipad operators to monitor the operational challenges, providing oversight of the developments nearby the helipad to ensure safety procedures and flight routes are protected during and after construction, whilst exploring options for longer term reprovision.

No.6 have been leading a number of studies that consider both on and off campus locations for a new helipad as the campus is developed. The technical challenges associated with helipad design has required a diverse set of skills and a rigorous approach to risk and stakeholder management.
